Fort Shafter – Military Exergame Programs

15 October 2015

This week Exergame Fitness takes part in an exciting, not your every day install. We will be sending someone out to Hawaii to the Fort Shafter military base to install an iDance system. This is a great opportunity for us as we would like to branch out into the military market for selling Exergame equipment. These military exergame programs should show others that our machines can truly be used by anyone for many purposes.

It may seem silly to imagine a bunch of soldiers dancing around to a video game, but it is more than that. The whole installation was made possible thanks to a

US Army MWR Program (Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Programs) grant. It is a very noble and thoughtful program to make life in the military a little better given the situations some deal with. From the MWR Mission page:

“The Army’s investment in delivering the highest quality programs and services – from Family, child and youth programs to recreation, sports, entertainment, travel and leisure activities – reflects its commitment to Soldiers, Families, Civilians and Retirees.”

We hope this will allow other military and government facilities to see the benefits of Exergame equipment. With these military exergame programs we can show that they can be used to motivate people to be active which is what they have always done. But also, to serve as a mean of entertainment, not just exercise. It is nice to unwind and play games with all your friends not only by yourself, especially in the military. The iDance system is perfect for this, being able to host up to 32 players/mats at a time.

In the future military exergame programs can very easily include our other flagship products like the T-Wall 64 and the Nexersys. But this is a great step in the right direction for showing others the true value of our equipment. The military is by no means behind the times but we think that with the right equipment and military exergame programs, it could really make a difference both in entertaining and training individuals.
